Karen Calloo is Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Calloo Consulting Services LLC, bringing more than 20 years of executive leadership experience in finance, accounting, operations and organizational growth. She is recognized for building high-performing financial functions, strengthening internal controls, driving strategic planning, and leading organizations through periods of significant expansion and transformation.

Karen previously served as Chief Financial Officer of Child Trends, the nation’s largest independent research center dedicated exclusively to improving the lives and prospects of children and youth. As a member of the executive leadership team, she played a pivotal role in advancing the organization’s strategic growth, financial sustainability, and fundraising capacity, serving as a trusted advisor to the President, Chief Operating Officer, and Board of Directors.

During her tenure, Karen transformed and scaled the organization’s finance function, building a high-performing team of accounting professionals and establishing systems and processes that consistently resulted in clean external audits. She successfully guided the organization through a period of extraordinary growth, overseeing the expansion of annual revenue from $10 million to $30 million and supporting workforce growth from 80 to more than 200 employees. Her leadership helped position the organization for long-term sustainability while maintaining a strong culture of accountability and operational excellence.

In addition to finance, Karen led the organization’s Information Technology function, providing strategic oversight of technology infrastructure, cybersecurity, and data accessibility. Her forward-thinking leadership enabled the organization to transition seamlessly to a fully remote operating environment during the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring uninterrupted business continuity and productivity.

Prior to her role as Chief Financial Officer, Karen successfully led various accounting departments in multi-million-dollar for-profit companies for 10 years. She directly managed budgets of up to $650 million in annual revenue. Earlier in her career, she worked for three years in direct auditing with Arthur Andersen, one of the top six audit firms at that time.

She holds a Master of Business Administration from Johns Hopkins University, and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Howard University. She is passionate about helping organizations strengthen their financial foundations, navigate growth, and achieve lasting impact.
